Akira Health stemmed from the desire to create a health care system that would help the Medicare population receive high quality care and maintain lower costs. This was made possible through the Affordable Care Act of 2010 which created the Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP), allowing groups of doctors to form Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs). ACOs were created to be held accountable for the cost and quality of the care provided to Medicare Part A and B beneficiaries of participating doctors. Our hope is to reduce waste in Medicare spending by increasing collaboration between doctors, reducing avoidable hospitalizations (through improved preventive care and chronic condition management), and ultimately providing the best care to the patients.
All information shared between our organization and the PCPs follow all HIPAA regulations. We do not share information with outside parties and/or the different doctors in our organization. The ACO does not bill Medicare, the patient, or physician for any care coordination services provided by our care team.
Our MSSP Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) are formed by local independent Primary Care Providers (PCPs). Our care teams, comprised of nurses, social workers, and other physicians, work with these PCPs to help their patients stay as healthy as possible as long as possible. Our team of healthcare providers consists of board-certified physicians, nurses, and support staff who are committed to providing exceptional care to our patients. We ensure that our providers stay up-to-date with the latest medical advancements and techniques.
